How to Play

Yu-Gi-Oh!

It's time to duel!

All Guides/Yu-Gi-Oh!

Fast-paced card game with no resource system - you can play any card from your hand if you meet its conditions. Known for explosive combo turns and powerful Extra Deck monsters.

01

What is Yu-Gi-Oh!?

Yu-Gi-Oh! is a high-speed card game based on the popular anime and manga. Unlike other TCGs, there's no mana or energy system - if you can meet a card's summoning conditions, you can play it immediately. This creates explosive turns where skilled players can summon multiple powerful monsters in a single turn.

The game features iconic monsters like Dark Magician and Blue-Eyes White Dragon, plus thousands of archetypes with unique playstyles. Yu-Gi-Oh! is known for its complex card interactions and combo-driven gameplay.

02

Basic Rules & Objective

Objective: Reduce your opponent's Life Points from 8000 to 0, or make them unable to draw when required.

Deck Requirements: 40-60 cards in Main Deck. Extra Deck of 0-15 cards (Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, Link monsters). Side Deck of 0-15 cards for best-of-3 matches.

Setup: Both players start at 8000 LP. Shuffle and draw 5 cards. Determine first player (they cannot draw or conduct Battle Phase on first turn). Winner of rock-paper-scissors chooses who goes first.

03

Turn Structure

Each turn has 6 phases:

  1. Draw Phase: Draw 1 card (skip on first turn if going first)
  2. Standby Phase: Effects that activate "during the Standby Phase" trigger here
  3. Main Phase 1: Normal Summon 1 monster, activate Spell/Trap cards, Special Summon, Set cards face-down
  4. Battle Phase: Attack with your monsters (if you have any face-up Attack Position monsters)
  5. Main Phase 2: Same as Main Phase 1
  6. End Phase: "End of turn" effects trigger, check for hand size limits

Important: You can only Normal Summon once per turn, but Special Summons are unlimited!

04

Card Types & Zones

Monster Cards: Your battlers. Come in Levels 1-12. Normal, Effect, Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum, and Link monsters exist. Have ATK and DEF stats.

Spell Cards: Powerful effects. Types: Normal (one-time use), Quick-Play (use on opponent's turn), Continuous (stay on field), Equip (attach to monster), Field (affects entire field), Ritual (summon Ritual monsters).

Trap Cards: Set face-down, activate during opponent's turn. Types: Normal, Continuous, Counter.

Field Layout: Main Monster Zone (5 spots), Spell & Trap Zone (5 spots), Extra Monster Zones (2 shared spots for Link/Pendulum), Field Zone, Graveyard (GY), Banished pile.

05

How to Win

Win conditions:

  1. Life Points: Reduce opponent to 0 LP through battle damage or effect damage
  2. Deck Out: Opponent cannot draw when required
  3. Special Conditions: Cards like Exodia have unique "you win" conditions

Battle Damage: When your monster attacks opponent's monster: If your ATK is higher, deal difference as damage. If equal, both destroyed, no damage. If lower, you take damage. Direct attacks deal full ATK as damage.

Strategy Tip: Yu-Gi-Oh! games often end in 3-5 turns. Learn your deck's combo lines and how to interrupt opponent's plays with hand traps!
